If I'm not answering, chances are I've gotten in over my head with something, not that I'm refusin' to give you the time of day. Do you have meat for Scarlet? Her food can be pricey sometimes.

Scout isn't gonna let that happen. He'll fight 'im for it.

Camerupt is a six foot tall camel with two active volcanoes on its back. He will not win that battle.

...I think maybe looking into getting Scout a ball would be good too. Not-- not a normal one. A Pokéball.

If you think it'll help, sure. All I want is make sure Manabu's dog is okay. He'd've wanted that.

He could actually probably battle Camerupt. The thing's a mountain and would be good practice for Scout to use his moves on...

[he digresses.]

I was gonna mention it to Manabu, anyway. It makes gettin' them around easier.

Scout's not as perky. I think he knows something's wrong.

He's a Pokémon. If you tell him Manabu isn't-- around anymore, he'll understand.

[archie sighs.]

I'll help you deal with him. Me an' Maxie both know how to deal with Poochyena an' I had to figure out my mom's team when she... wasn't around, too.

Sorry about your mom. I'll try 'n round of Scout's stuff and Scarlet's stuff, make sure they make it through this okay.

I'll be over sometime today. Dunno what I'll tell school. Dunno if I care, to tell you the truth. Everything feels a little pointless right now.

I can call them for you. Tell 'em you got the sonic shits again, huh? [he snorts.] Don't worry, I'll talk to them. Gimme your key when you get over and I don't mind making trips to get your stuff.

[he has no god damn idea what to do with manabu's left over stuff.]

...is the stuff I bought with Sunset for our apartment his or mine?

It can still belong to both of you. Even if he's not here.

[Just, the sound of muffled, quiet crying.]

[oh, brendan, his heart bleeds for you.]

...I'm gonna come get you. We can get a cab back.

Okay. I'll, uh, I'll try an' grab everything... and, thanks. For bein' there.

Don't worry about it. I'll be there in about twenty minutes.

[Brendan is ready to go when Archie arrives. Scout and Scarlet are in their jackets, their supplies packed up into a seperate backpack. Brendan's got a bag full of his stuff and Manabu's, thrown haphazardly into the bag and not really rational choices for this sort of temporary move. His hair is a worse mess than it's ever been, he looks exhausted, and he doesn't greet Archie, he just looks at him for an awkward length of time.]

[when he gets there he looks brendan over briefly, then puts a hand on his shoulder, gives it a squeeze and pulls him into a loose hug.]

M'sorry.

I'll live. Whether or not I want to. Can you carry Scout out? He hates cars, cabs included.

[He's so tired. For a moment he leans against Archie, but he tries to keep it together. He's got to keep going.]

[he sighs, just holding brendan for a moment. not wanting to admit that... yeah, he knows that. he's the team leader, not the one that fucks up and lays on his bed for a couple months in a new world wishing he was dead.]

I'll get him. Don't worry about it.

Thanks. I told him about Manabu and he's... not taking it well, Arch.

I didn't expect he would... my mum's Corsola stopped shedding its shell properly so it got, uh. Large.

[and not in a good way.]

He'll be better when he's with mine and Maxie's Mightyena's. They're of his own evolutionary line and they've both seen people they love go too, so they'll be able to comfort him.

I think Scout would've clawed at the floor more if Scarlet hadn't freaked out. He doesn't wanna scare her. He's a good dog. He deserved better than this.

...I hope you're right. It's depressing, seeing him like this.

...That's impressively empathetic, especially for a Dark type. Huh. Well. Where is he?

Things can always get weirder here than you'd expect.

He's done a lot of sitting on the bed looking angry at everyone. So, there, unless he's decided to move. Craeful; he might growl a little or act like he's about to snap at you. He's had a rough week.

Sharpedo has chewed on me when it was mega evolved before. If I can survive that, I'm sure I can take an Ice Beam or two if that's what Scout's cookin' up.

[he's gonna... go do that. leave brendan alone with his thoughts for a while.]

[Brendan hasn't smoked since he was a freshman in Drama Club, lounging around backstage with Kara, with whom he would turn the back room into a haze of smoke and shitty poetry and shittier petty thefts on her behalf later on. Sometimes someone would make a snack run and they'd pop cheap Mexican food from downtown and skip sixth period.

He smoked briefly again after Emily broke up with him, but he's a cheap bastard and more than his health he gave up smoking back home because he couldn't afford it. Here, he lifted some out of a gas station brazenly and now he leans against the doorframe and lights one up. He hopes the security cameras at the gas station caught him. He hopes everyone catches him. He hopes they get angry at him so he can get defensive because maybe, just maybe, that'll make him feel something.

Right now he doesn't feel a damn thing and it's eating him up inside in ways he doesn't have words for.]
