In a way, it's a perfect echo of when Brendan first pecked him on the cheek and many other moments in their relationship; Manabu is always the flustered one, Brendan's always making moves without pausing to ask himself if that's a good idea, and they just try to manage what comes after as best they can.

To be fair, though, this time he's apparently transported through time and space, so being disoriented and out of sync with the world around him isn't just a Brendan thing, it's a how-am-I-still-alive-let-alone-here thing. God, it's been so long since he's seen Manabu blush red enough to live up to that Sunset nickname and yet it feels familiar, as if he'd only done this last yesterday.

The world around them is clearly Manabu's. There's so many questions he'd ask if he gave a damn, but he doesn't, not right at this second. He can be practical and boring later, right now he just follows Manabu's lead and lets himself be led to a private train car. At some point he ends up holding Manabu's hand out of a mixture of habit and a need to confirm that this is real. Good things like this don't happen to people as awful as Brendan.

Then again, he'd thought the same thing the first time Manabu had let him curl up and cry against him, and that turned out to be real, too.

Brendan shifts so he's facing his boyfriend, taking him in. He looks about as well as he ever does, still gentle-eyed and soft-voiced even in his uniform and en route to his actual job. His hair's still a mess of wild fluff that Brendan wants to run his hands through, but for the moment he's content to just see him again. A part of him had died when Manabu left, only to return here, in this moment, and he doesn't know what to do with all the things he feels. For once, Brendan Smart-Ass Frye is actually, genuinely speechless.

Finally, he leans over and pecks Manabu on the cheek, just as he had that hot summer day long ago. "Good to see you, too, you odd bird, you."
